The Bahamas i/bəˈhɑːməz/, officially the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, is an island country of the Lucayan Archipelago consisting of more than 700 islands, cays, and islets in the Atlantic Ocean; north of Cuba and Hispaniola (Haiti and the Dominican Republic); northwest of the Turks and Caicos Islands; southeast of the US state of Florida and east of the Florida Keys. Its capital is Nassau on the island of New Providence. The designation of "Bahamas" can refer to either the country or the larger island chain that it shares with the Turks and Caicos Islands. As stated in the mandate/manifesto of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force, the Bahamas territory encompasses 470,000 km2 (180,000 sq mi) of ocean space.
Originally inhabited by the Lucayan, a branch of the Arawakan-speaking Taino people, the Bahamas were the site of Columbus' first landfall in the New World in 1492. Although the Spanish never colonised the Bahamas, they shipped the native Lucayans to slavery in Hispaniola. The islands were mostly deserted from 1513 until 1648, when English colonists from Bermuda settled on the island of Eleuthera.
A building or edifice is a structure with a roof and walls standing more or less permanently in one place, such as a house or factory. Buildings come in a variety of shapes, sizes and functions, and have been adapted throughout history for a wide number of factors, from building materials available, to weather conditions, to land prices, ground conditions, specific uses and aesthetic reasons. To better understand the term building compare the list of nonbuilding structures.
Buildings serve several needs of society – primarily as shelter from weather, security, living space, privacy, to store belongings, and to comfortably live and work. A building as a shelter represents a physical division of the human habitat (a place of comfort and safety) and the outside (a place that at times may be harsh and harmful).
Ever since the first cave paintings, buildings have also become objects or canvasess of artistic expression. In recent years, interest in sustainable planning and building practices has also become an intentional part of the design process of many new buildings.
A commercial building is a building that is used for commercial use. Types can include office buildings, warehouses, or retail (i.e. convenience stores, 'big box' stores, shopping malls, etc.). In urban locations, a commercial building often combines functions, such as an office on levels 2-10, with retail on floor 1. Local authorities commonly maintain strict regulations on commercial zoning, and have the authority to designate any zoned area as such. A business must be located in a commercial area or area zoned at least partially for commerce.
Grand Bahama is the northernmost of the islands of the Bahamas, and the closest major island to the United States, lying 90 kilometres (56 mi) off the state of Florida. It is the fourth largest island in the Bahamas island chain of approximately 700 islands and 2,400 cays. The island is approximately 153 kilometres (95 mi) long west to east and 24 kilometres (15 mi) at its widest point north to south. Administratively, the island consists of the Freeport Bonded Area and the districts of East Grand Bahama and West Grand Bahama.
The Spanish gave the island the name Gran Bajamar, meaning "Great Shallows", and what the eventual name of the Bahamas islands as a whole is derived from. However, the Lucayan (pre-Columbian) name for the island was Bahama. Grand Bahama's existence for almost two centuries was largely governed by the nature of these "great shallows" - the coral reefs surrounding the island were treacherous, and repelled its Spanish claimants (who largely left it alone apart from infrequent en route stops by ships for provisions) while attracting pirates, who would lure ships onto the reefs where they would run aground and be plundered. The Spaniards took little interest in the island after enslaving the native Lucayan inhabitants.
Hope Town is one of the districts of the Bahamas, on the Abaco islands as well as a small village on Elbow Cay, located in Abaco. Golf carts are the main source of transportation, and most of the supplies for the area are brought in by barge each week. In Hope Town, neither cars nor golf carts are permitted in the main part of town. Only bicycles and walking are permitted. Cars and golf carts are permitted on the outskirts of town, however. All the buildings that are built must adhere to Bahamian Architecture at the discretion of Town Planning. The seat of the Hope Town District Council is in Hope Town, and most of the meetings are held there.
Elbow Cay offers mostly private homes for rent. However, a few hotels and inns are available as well; most notably, the Hope Town Harbor Lodge.
Hope Town features one of the last operational kerosene-fueled lighthouses in the world. This lighthouse was built in 1862 and became operational two years later, it is striped horizontally red and white. Its light can be seen from 23 nmi (43 km) away.

There are thousands of acres of simply abandoned property in the Bahamas. Families died or people moved on decades ago. I specialise in long abandoned beachfront and waterfront properties that are currently too small in value or require too much detective work to be of interest to any overpriced Regular Real Estate Brokers. You will not find these listed on websites anywhere. I take my time to visit each island and video only those properties I stumble across that interest me. Each property may require about a years worth of documentary research at the Nassau Land Registry Offices (which resembles something out of Hogwarts library), and then once the last recorded owner’s records are obtained and a full legal description along with a survey, after a visit to the Tax Revenue Office to i...

One of the biggest questions I get asked from visitors is usually about buying property here on Eleuthera. They have come for a visit, loved their time here, looked at real estate prices and think they would like to buy a property. Bahamas Travel Video Guide scattered like dabs of possibility on an adventurer's palette, the Bahamas are ready-made for exploration. Just ask Christopher Columbus, he bumped against these limestone landscapes in 1492 and changed the course of history. But adventure didn't end with the Niña, the Pinta and the Santa Maria. From pirates to blockade dodgers to rum smugglers, wily go-getters have converged and caroused on the country's 700 islands and 2400 cays for centuries. So what's in Bahamas Travel Video Guide for travelers? There's sailing to Abacos. Diving Andros' blue holes. Kayaking the countless cays around Exumas. Lounging on Eleuthera's beaches. Pondering pirates in Nassau. Indeed, there's a Bahamian island to match most every water-and-sand-based compulsion. Each of them framed b...
Get more Tips here! http://www.destinationtips.com Just like any other country, there is a list of things you should and shouldn't do while visiting the Bahamas, so we're here to help you stay on the locals' good side with these 5 Things NOT To Do in the Bahamas. 1. Don't Take a Taxi Without Negotiating a Fare Most taxis don't use meters like they do in other places around the world. This can make paying really tricky when you reach your destination. To avoid a sticky situation with your cab driver, make sure to negotiate your rate upfront. 2. Don't Skip Conch "Conch" makes most people think of a slimy, slippery snail. But it's actually a mollusk and you can't go to the Bahamas without giving it a try! We recommend the Twin Brothers seafood shack which has some of the best tropical cuisi...

"Grand Bahama Excursion" Capt. George Gozdz heads to West End, Grand Bahama with Kyle Shea. Leaving out of Lake Worth Inlet, George and crew make quick work of the Gulfstream, getting into West End and clearing customs in a few hours. The plan was to load up on bait and make a run to New Providence Channel, targeting black and yellowfin tuna. Good electronics are a must in this fishery, radar allows you to mark the birds above the tuna miles away. A good sonar allows you to pin point the tuna in the water column. Once the fish were found, live bait, chunk bait and even topwater plugs were getting bit. The tuna had pushed to the North and the weather was iffy, so George and Kyle opted to stay close to West End, and deep drop for snapper and grouper species. Fishing 800 to 1200 feet, an el...
